Session #110 · 2007–09

Speech #1100028119

I want to go back and talk about the Jordan Commission. In the early nineties. Congresswoman Barbara Jordan from Texas. a very. very distinguished Member of this body. chaired that commission to study immigration reform and clearly said as part of the recommendations. there were a number of those recommendations. only some of which. Mr. Speaker. were implemented. but one of them was to say very specifically that it should only be a nuclear family. not this situation where because of this chain effect. that in a very short period of time of a couple of generations. or really a short period of 17 years. we end up with 273 people.
