Speech #1100028119

In case it is not for those in the back of the Chamber. I would be happy to go through it bullet by bullet. But this says "Chain Migration Equals InterGenerational Relocation Program." It gives visa priority to the cousins. to the adult children and distant relatives of legal immigrants. It creates a backlog of visa applicants. And it allows. and this is the final point on this slide. Mr. Speaker. and of course I have already alluded to these points in my opening remarks. but it allows genealogy. not job skills. not education. not English proficiency to determine who immigrates to our country. We just cant afford that. We absolutely must use common sense and go back to the Jordan Commission recommendation in regard to limiting genealogy entry into this country based not on skills at all. but on just who you happen to be related to. And I will get to that in just a few minutes. My colleague from Iowa is with us tonight. We call on him a lot. but he is always forthcoming with very. very good. useful information on many subjects. not the least of which is the issue of immigration. I am talking about Representative STEVE KING. my classmate. I thank him for joining me during this hour. and I look forward to his comments.
