Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090132000

Senator Sessions. I will address one small part so that others can comment. and that is I think we know intuitively that renters and owners treat their properties differently. Renting to own may be a compromise. but I would say that we have recent evidence citing Giovanni Peris paper out of UCDavis in November that we know that the entrepreneurial behavior of those immigrants who feel that they have some possibility of being here in the long term is increased because they are more likely to invest their capital here in the United States to engage in skillbuilding that resonates better in the United States and they get better returns on. So my one comment would be we know we sometimes get very efficient and good behaviors for our national interest from immigiants of all skill levels if the think they may have a longterm role to play here both about themselves and their children. Senator SESSIONS.
