Over the next 8 years. 1.5 million Armenians died at the hands ot the Turks. end s hall million more were deported. As the United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Henry Morgenthau. Sr.. has wrltten. "When the Turkish authonlies gave the orders for these deportations. they were merely giving the death warrant to a whole race. They understood this well and made no particular attempt to conceal the fact." As a supporter of human rights. I am appalled that the Turdsh government is stil refusing to ackowledge what happened and instead is attempting to rewrite history.
