This idea that all of a sudden people are going to pour through our door that have HIV. That is just not the case. At least. if we are going to talk about immigration because the basis of immigration is reunification of families--that is 80 percent of itand the others are special skills. 75 percent are already in this country. Of the immigrants we have tested. less than 1 percent have tested positive. So while you may say you are doing something to protect the public health. you are driving people underground. By not dealing with this issue in the way the public health community believes it should be dealt with. through education. knowledge. and awareness. we are endangering the lives of Americans.
