Israel last experienced a large influx of immigrants in the 1950s. The immigrant community expanded Israels economy and made Israel into an exporter. Today. Israel exports about 17 billion dollars worth of goods. representing some 35 percent of GDP. These new immigrants will cause a further expansion of Israels economy over this decade. But in the short term. Israel will need to spend huge amounts of money to absorb and integrate these new citizens.
