It is an issue that is emotion charged. It is an issue that will have profound impact on the country. It tries to deal with a problem which is a problem of crisis proportion. And it is an issue that in some way affects all of us. not just economically and socially. but because we are all people who have sprung as children and grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of immigrants. My grandfather came to this country right after the turn of the century from Germany. My wifes father came to this country as an indigenous laborer to the sugar plantations. and her grandmother came as a picture bride.
