Mr. Speaker. if the gentleman from Mississippi will continue to yield. I would just say that for those of us who have been working for immigration reform. the assurances that we had received earlier in the year that the House was in fact going to work on it. and it was the intention to deal with that issue before we went home in a finished fashion. ring rather hollow now. If the gentleman believes an issue of that magnitude can be dealt with in 1 week and then go to conference. with all the problems that ensue. and have it on the Presidents desk. I think the gentleman is asking too much. and I understand the House may therefore look like it is doing something but unfortunately it sounds like the will of the people is to be frustrated again.
