As a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. he dealt with complex administrative and policy issues. He has extensive experience and a thorough understanding of the demands of diplomacy and the challenges facing the Department of State. He has also been involved in some of the difficult refugee issues confronting the United States and the international community in dealing with the continuing worldwide crisis of refugees. including his recent service on Secretary Shultzs Indochinese Refugee Panel. As the ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Refugee Policy. I look forward to working with Jonathan Moore in his new role as U.S. Coordinator for Refugee Affairs. and I warmly welcome his nomination.
