Wends have traveled the world to provide for the essentials of life. Part of the heritage they carried with them has been a deep sense of religion40 percent are Lutheran. The first Wendish immigration to America began at the outset of this century. with the greatest Influx in the years from 1907 to 1914. Although there are smaller Wendish settlements in Chicago and Pittsburgh. and in various communities in Connecticut and New Jersey. the greatest Wendish settlement is in the city of Bethlehem. where between 5.000 to 6.000 persons of Wendish origin live. The Wendish Lutheran congregation. a member of the United Lutheran Church of America. has more than 1.200 members.
