By doing so. we will enhance the reputation of this great Nation among freedomloving peoples all over the world. At this time. I think it only fitting to mention the plight of Marina Shenderovich. a 25yearold refusenik. Marina faces the reign of oppression in the Soviet Union as do so many of her fellow Jews in the Soviet Union. The daughter of an engineer and an English teacher. she was refused an emigration visa in 1979 for unstated reasons. As a result. she was forced to curtail her studies at the university. As a nation dedicated to the principles of independence and the protection of human rights. the refusenik community looks to us for direction.
