Mr. Speaker. all citizens of democracies decry the plight of the Jewish residents of the Soviet Union. The persecution they undergo at home in combination with being prohibited to emigrate or practice their faith in freedom results in an untolerable situation for all those who respect the primacy of the individual and that individuals freedom of worship. This tragic plight Is only accentuated when it is realized that representatives of the Washington Board of Rabbis. arrested for demonstrating against the discriminatory treatment of Jews in the Soviet Union in front of the Soviet Embassy. were prosecuted. Why has the Government decided to prosecute these members of the clergy when it has dropped all charges against all those who have done the same at other embassies?
