Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980243070

Mr. Speaker. I am making this appeal on the floor of the House in behalf of the wife and son of Simon Levin. In 1978. he immigrated to the United States with the understanding that under the Helsinki agreement which the Soviet Union signed and the United States signed. his family would be able to join him. Unfortunately. that has not been the case. He has never seen his young son. The unnecessary pain that this has caused this one family should be resolved by the Soviet Union and the United States as quickly as possible. I urge the Soviet officials who want to see some humanitarian gestures of friendship between our countries to do what they can to see that this family is reunited. and I urge American officials who meet with the Soviet Union to bring up the case of Simon Levin and his family.9
