The celebration contradicts the true and democratic purpose of this uprising and represents it as a communistic actionwhile in fact Slovak uprisers. with arms in hand. confronted the Nazi army and proclaimed their support of the allied nations. After the Communist takeover in August 1948. many of the participants of the uprising who fought for their freedom had to leave their country. Some of those freedom fighters now live in my district and are active in the Permanent Conference of Slovak Democratic Refugees in Exile.
