Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970200192

The Turkish troops have not been removed. A free and independent Cypriot Government has not been established. Tens of thousands of refugees remain in need of adequate housing. Since it took office almost 2 years ago. the Reagan administration has done little more than wring its hands in dismay at the situation in Cyprus. Moreover. the administration succeeded early in offending Greece by proposing a change in the traditional ratio of military aid to Turkey and Greece in its request for foreign assistance during fiscal year 1982. despite the fact that no progress had been made on the issue of removing Turkish troops from Cyprus.
