Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960237071

The civilized world. in particular the United States. has a moral obligation to save the Kampuchean people from extinction. Our Government must pledge its support and urge the support of other nations during the international conference this month in Geneva. America must continue to accept adequate numbers of refugees for resettlement. Our Government must act to protect the wellbeing of those Kampucheans both in Kampuchea and along the Thai border by preventing any forced repatriation of refugees. I am strongly in support of Congresswoman HECKLERS resolution because I believe that it describes the vital goals which our Nation must pursue in helping to bring about an end to the Kampuchean nightmare. It is my great hope that the House and subsequently the Senate will approve this resolution in time to help end the Kampuchean nightmare before further tragedy occurs.@
