Mr. Speaker. as this Nation witnesses the spectacle of tens of thousands of Cuban refugees streaming onto our shores. we are reminded once again of what a great nation we are. These refugees. like the thousands who have preceded them over time. have consciously chosen America for the many benefits that this great Nation provides. The Cuban exodus in some respects is an indictment of the system of communism as practiced by Fidel Castro. The Castro system is oppressive and debilitating. The Cuban economy is in desperate condition. Conversely. America is a land of opportunity and hope for its citizens and for all those who enter our shores.
