Session #94 · 1975–77

Speech #940041360

In our view. there is a compelling moral obligation for the U.N. to assist in this lifesaving effort. For it to ignore this responsibility can only mean more hardship. more suffering and more death for the people of Vietnam. If the United Nations fails to respond to the very basic needs of these refugees. it will be further degraded as a humanitarian body. And its failure once again to act in the face of challenge will diminish further the respect and influence it commands in the world and its future ability to bend arms into plowshares. In view of the recent events in Southeast Asia.
