Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910272512

The Senator says a few. There are 17 million people in South Vietnam. Of course. I do not know how many would be physically endangered but certainly more than a few. I share the view expressed by the Senator from South Dakota. as it is certainly nothing new for our country to provide asylum for refugees. We did it in the Cuban crisis and would do it again if necessary. That is not the point the Senator from Kansas makes. The point is that apparently the sponsors of the amendment recognize that many who remain in South Vietnam. if there is a precipitate withdrawal because of some fixed date by the sponsors. will be physically endangered.
