Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900131816

We found the Englishspeaking youngsters had as much interest and enthusiasm for the chance to learn to speak Spanish as did the Spanishspeaking youngsters to learn English. In other words. what was at first viewed as a handicap turned out to be a real resource. Equal interest and enthusiasm was evidenced on both sides. and the language barrier. was successfully overcome. Mr. President. this temporary housing program has the strong support of everyone that I know of who is knowledgeable in the area of migrants and their problems. Yet. this successful program does not qualify for OEOs priority list. Perhaps it is too successful.
