Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890120796

Chairman. during all this time of fighting to protect minorities. we have been discriminating. believe it or not. against a great populous majority. Indeed we have been discriminating against the rest of the world. I refer. of course. to our immigration regulations and laws as they now exist. For many years we have tenaciously held to the concept that some peoples. or races. are more desirable than others. We have excluded the great ethnic groups who have contributed so much to the culture and ways of life of our Nation. For a few examples. the Italians. the Spaniards. the Polesall have had an immeasurable effect upon the United States. It would be useless to even begin to name the immigrants from these and other countries. and their contributions. to our Nation. But in recognition of these contributions. instead of welcoming them. we lock them out. Instead of utilizing their talents. we exclude them.
