But we should not overlook the many important cares in the world not so dramatic or so threatening. Americans must have room for all problems and a thought for all people. For this reason we often speak in Congress about the captive nations of Eastern Europe. They now appear to be securely in Communist control. But occasionally a stirring escape through the Berlin wall. a riot in Budapest. a political refugee. remind us that communism was imposed on these many little countries by force. It is incompatible with liberal. Christian ideals of individual liberty and brotherly love which formed the cultural backbone of Europe.
