Like many progressive ideas. the Constitution of May 3 was ahead of its time. We serve our ideals well by rememberIng May 3 as a significant date in Polish history. Our speeches. brief though they may be. are a source of encouragement to the many Polish refugees and PolishAmericans who must necessarily carry the brunt of the most difficult and saddening struggle against communism in their homeland. And it is important that the Poles living under communism be reminded of the hopefulness of the May 3 Constitution and the bravery of their forefathers. because they must rise against conditions closely resembling those of feudalism. The example of 1791 should spur them on to renewed efforts.
