Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880087150

In the Department of Justice. a decision will have to be made as to whether these 59 young people shall be allowed to challenge the laws of our Government without responsibility. I say today on this floor. "Mr. Attorney General. Robert Kennedy. you must understand that our Government cannot survive if individuals can defiantly and brazenly violate the law without being required to pay the penalty for such violation." It appears that our immigration laws have been violated. The Attorney General should make certain that the individuals involved are brought before the bar of justice and made to pay the penalty for their defiance of the dignity of the U.S. Government.
