They made that circuitous trip to Prague. through Hague. London. Amsterdam. and Paris to avoid the immigration laws of our country. We have a ban against tourists going to Cuba except under extraordinary circumstances. In Cuba they participated in paying tribute to the supposedly great political leader of Cuba--Castro. After their visit in Cuba they were taken to Spain. and from Spain. on August 29. they came back to the United States. When they came to the offices of the U.S. Government at the port of entry in New York. the immigration officials. on the basis of the violations committed. proceeded to declare their passports invalid. The officials contemplated stamping the passports "invalid." When that was sought to be done. this group of students. then consisting of 45. staged a sitdown. The officials were confronted with the problem of dealing with the sitdown or subsequently writing a letter to each of the participants. stating that the passports were void from the beginning.
