Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880015129

However. I rise today to emphasize that. despite these longawaited developments. a significant problem in the war claims area remains unresolved. I refer to two classes of claimants who as yet have received no measure of recognition for their claims: The first consists of refugees from Nazism and other tyrannies who became citizens of the United States after their property was seized. I offered an amendment to last years bill to include such claimants. but the conferees rejected the amendment. at the same time offering hope that if funds remain after payment of other claimants. favorable action might ultimately be taken for these unfortunate citizens. My colleague. the Senator from Illinois . also introduced an amendment to deal with a second group of claimants: prisoners of war and internees who have personal injury claims.
