At least as long as this remains true. it is essential that the peoples of the world be kept constantly aware of this open spectacle of Communist imperialism. and that the world community exert maximum peaceful pressure upon the Soviets to abandon it. Mr. President. Senators will know of the investigation currently being conducted by the United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary. Hearings are now being held in Geneva by the special committee to obtain testimony from former officials of the Hungarian Government. leaders of the freedom fight. nonHungarian observers. military and civilian refugees. Following similar hearings in Vienna. the special committee is expected to issue a report to the General Assembly. I want to announce. here and now.
