Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800198201

I am at this minute concerned with the feelings of those thousands. perhaps millions. of our people who presently feel differently about it. I know many of thempersonally. I know by old experience the organizations which have decided to oppose any further admissions of immigrants. at least at this time. They are dependable. devoted. patriotic Americans. proud of their long American lineage. jealous of anything which might harm their country either in its security. its prosperity. or even in its comfort and high standards of living. These fellow citizens of ours have permitted themselves to become alarmed about this bill. or any bill of the sort.
