Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800198203

Let us take the situation just briefly as to work: General Hilldring testified as follows: I think that the displaced persons have established a remarkable record for themselves in their attitude toward work. This has become particularly evident after stabilization of the conditions during the past year. Generals Mark Clark and Lucius Clay have indicated that there was and is little or no crime amongst the DPs. The International Refugee Organization says their health is more than satisfactory. On the other hand. however. the fact that displaced persons refuse to be sent back to Communistdominated countries shows their attitude toward that philosophy. The attitude of displaced persons toward communism has been further shown by several incidents illustrative of their feeling toward Soviet propagandists.
