Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800189758

If he does not have a diplomatic status. then there are two other means. as I understand. for the gentleman to remain here. The first is an extension of his time by the Attorney General. under authority which is given and which is exercised in many cases. Under the present law if the Attorney General for good cause sees fit to extend the time for one who is here on a temporary visa. he may do so. and he then reports it to the Congress. As the law exists today. unless the Congress takes adverse action. so I am advised. he may remain here permanently. We have acted upon that law this year.
