To me it is a most important amendment and one which perhaps is not fully appreciated. I fear Senators think It would add to the number of displaced persons who would come in under the bill. which Is not correct. They would come in under the regular immigration quotas and be chargeable to those quotas for the year. Mr. President. I am thinking of a number of people whom I know. who are now in this country. who are here temporarily. who are here legally. who would meet all the requirements of the immigration law. and who certainly should be permitted to remain.
