Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780136521

Mr. Speaker. a number of inquiries have been made to the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization dealing with the question of Japanese in this country. A number of Members have asked me why I do not conduct hearings on bills now pending before the committee. on the ground. it Is claimed. that the Attorney General. Francis Biddle. appeared before the Dies committee and m~de a statement that the committee can bring out legislation to cancel the citizenship of nativeborn Japanese. I personally do not believe the Attorney General meant that. His statement was ratler broad and lent itself to many interpretations.
