Session #75 · 1937–39

Speech #750024095

It does not cover businessmen residing in the United States who make occasional visits to Mexico or Canada to look after their business or investments. It applies to the poor Mexican laborer who comes into our country day by day to work for whatever he can get and deprives some good American citizen of the job he ought to have. This bill is at least a step in the right direction. There are a great many people of Mexican nationality in my city. Many were born there and many have been naturalized. They are treated courteously and in a friendly way by everybody. They are good citizens and accorded every right and privilege that any of us receive.
