Session #66 · 1919–21

Speech #660127979

Revolution was rife against the French Government. .nd British sentiment naturally inflamed and took alarm at his doctrines and condemned them. But his political tracts are not to be compared. in my judgment. with those which are josly considered today as an abuse of the right of free speech and of the right of agitation against the Government. While time construction placed upon them in that period of excitenent may have been identical. the construetion here placed upon time socalled " red " literature of today must largely be that c6nteiplated hy the immigration act. I do not understand that a citizen of the United States engaged in the dissemination of tJese destructive doctrines is subject to deportation. If he is. I hope the Senator will enlighten me.
