I wish to call the Senators attention to a statement made by the Senator from Vermont yesterday. when he said: In the year 1905 we admitted through the Ellis Island station 754.334 immigrants. Seven hundred and fiftyone thousand five hundred and ten. or 97.5 per cent of the whole number. had definite addresses and knew precisely where they were going. Out of that vast number only 2.824 were without a definite purpose In this regard. This is a very significant fact. and one that should have a strong influence upon us as we consider the causes which operate in bringing this vast wave of immigration to our shores. - That was the statement made yesterday by the Senator from Vermont.
