I recognize the force of that statement in part. but it comes from the fact that the relatives of these people in the large manufacturing centers and the large commercial cities of the seaboard have sent for their friends and relatives abroad. and they are anxious to locate them where they are. Although that maybe true. I do not think it is for the good of these large cities or for the good of the immigrants themselves that they should be huddled In these large cities and great manufacturing centers. I think that next to securing as good a class of immigrants as possible. it is most important to see that the immigrants are properly distributed throughout the length and breadth of the land. That is not only for the interest of the immigrants. but it is for the good of the people of the United States. because in that way they can more swiftly become Americanized and of advantagd to the country. So. without taking up further time on this subject. I must say I am heartily in favor of the spirit of the amendment. and I think it is one of the most beneficent provisions in the bill.
