Session #110 · 2007–09

Speech #1100065649

I had certainly hoped to have a vote on this amendment before we got to final consideration here on the floor. Increasing the penalties for those whose fraudulent. illegal voting negates the legal votes of more than 10 citizens is common sense. and I thought it would have bipartisan support. Despite my disappointment on that score. I support this legislation because it provides another mechanism for punishing illegal noncitizen voting and other forms of fraud. However. this legislation does not go nearly far enough. It fails to address what the American people want. more reliable and accurate forms of voter identification.
