Homeland Security funding is vitally important. Why? Its important because it sends a strong. clear message to all the employees of the Department of Homeland Security. including Customs and Border Protection officers. that serve us. serve us well. valiantly around the clock. that we think their work is important. Last summer. in August. we had a series of hearings. I went to. I think. five or six of those hearings where a number of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle were present as well. They talked about doing everything that was possible to secure our countrys borders. They talked about supporting the Customs and Border Protection officers. They talked about providing them the tools and the weapons and the technology. all the kinds of things that sounded really good. Yesterday and today. theyre singing a different tune.
