This amendment would create two factfinding commissions: one commission to review the U.S. Governments treatment of German Americans. Italian Americans. and European Latin Americans during World War HI. and another commission to review the U.S. Governments treatment of Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution during World War II. This amendment would help us to learn more about how recent immigrants and refugees were treated during World War II. The United States fought a courageous battle against the spread of Nazism and fascism. But we should not let justifiable pride in our Nations triumph in World War II blind us to the treatment of some Americans by their own government.
