Last year. we reauthorized the historic Voting Rights Act. the landmark act passed in 1965 safeguarding the right to vote for millions of Americans who had been denied that fundamental right for generations. The amendment offered by Senator MCCONNELL to this immigration bill will undermine the Voting Rights Act. It will restrict voting rights in America. It will diminish the voting rights of our American citizens. particularly minorities. the poor. the elderly. and the disabled.
