Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090153533

This amendment forces the Federal Government to disenfranchise American citizens from our most precious right of voting. Unfortunately. a misinformed few from the other side of the aisle have confused this issue. The Voting Rights Act has nothing to do with immigration. Let me repeat that: section 203 of the Voting Rights Act has nothing to do with immigration. One hundred percent of the people served by section 203 are U.S. citizens. I know a little bit about this. Both of my parents are naturalized citizens. My mother is an elementary schoolteacher who teaches other peoples children English. She has difficulty sometimes.
