Some on the other side of the aisle said this is unimportant. It might be to them. but it is not to me. nor is it to most Americans. I think it is at the center of this whole discussion about what we are doing with immigration. If the American people got any whiff that we thought having a national motto or a national anthem or a national pledge of allegiance or a national language was unimportant to us. I think they would throw us all out because most people know that our diversity is a magnificent strengthwe are a land of immigrantsbut our greater strength is that we have turned that all into one country. Iraq is diverse. and Bosnia is diverse. Are they better places for that?
