Session #105 · 1997–99

Speech #1050092510

Justice. State. and Judiciary. I would have to say. first and foremost. that 245(i) is an important undertaking in which we restore some compassion to the actions we took last year in immigration reform. I supported immigration reform as a muchneeded device in which we can separate the very big problem of illegal immigration In this country versus the problem of legal immigrants. People who have played by the rules come to this Nation and want to enjoy so much that this Nation has to offer. as many of our ancestors did when they came to this country. This is about compassion. keeping families together. making sure that employers who want to keep talent in this country are able to do so. This is not about aiding illegal immigration. This is about compassion. This is tightening up on immigration reform. Mr. Speaker.
