I opposed this bill when it originally passed the Senate in part because it included a provision to increase the eligibility age for Medicare. and a second provision to require a $5 per visit copayment for home health care. I am pleased that both provision were deleted from the legislation by the conference committee. I am also pleased that this bill restores benefits for legal immigrants who are currently receiving assistance or who become disabled and protects the minimum wage and other protections for welfare recipients moving from welfare to work. Mr. President. this bill will secure the Medicare trust fund for at least the next decade. and provides for additional preventive benefits.
