Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040242069

Let us just put people to work. 1.2 million women and children will lose Medicaid benefits. They will not have health care. Why are we doing that? That does not have anything to do with putting people to work. The bill is weak on work. Fortunately. we have an alternative. The CastleTanner bill makes provisions. It provides vouchers for when benefits are exhausted. It provides continued Medicaid coverage so children can get health care. It provides food stamps for legal immigrant children so that they will not starve. The Republican proposal is weak on work. According to the CBO. the bill is $12 billion short of what is needed to meet the work requirements.
