I will continue to work toward broadening the debate on smart cards and other forms of authentication technology with our Senate colleagues. In utilizing the most uptodate technology in these demonstration projects. we can ensure that the President will have the most efficient and the most costeffective alternatives to scrutinize. If we take deliberate care to develop a new identification system. then we can all benefit: American workers can be further protected. Employers can be relieved of the burden of sanctions. the Jobs magnet will be shut off. and most importantly. we will be able to clearly view the benefits of Immigration and diversity in our society.
