Mr. Chairman. I would like to recognize the gentleman from Michigan . the gentleman from California . and also the gentleman from Texas . for the excellent work they have done on the issue of immigration. Mr. Chairman. I would like to point out a couple of things. I rise in strong support of the Chrysler amendment. I think the bill as it is currently written would cut legal immigration far too far. According to the State Department. and I have a chart up here showing the numbers from the State Department. it would cut legal immigration a minimum of 30 percent. and maybe as much as 40 percent. That is simply too much. The Chrysler amendment has broad support from the Christian Coalition to the AFLCIO. from the Wall Street Journal editorial page to the L.A.
