What it will do is create tremendous legal. business. and foreign policy problems. In terms of legal problems. the idea of settling foreign land settlements. claims. in our courts sets an unbelievably bad example. Not only will it clog up our courts. but the precedent it sets for other immigrant Americans who have had their property seized I think is a wrong one and one that we will live to regret. Of course. most of those settlements will result in default judgments. but it is precisely the kind of thing that will strengthen Castros hand. The threat of all these land claims being settled in favor of the claimant is just what Castro needs to stay in power.
