They cannot believe that our Government is spending tens of millions of dollars to resettle former enemy Iraqi prisoners of war in the United States. Estimates from the State Department indicate that anywhere from 4.000 to 13.000 former enemy prisoners of war [EPOW] from Iraq have been declared refugees and are eligible for resettlement in the United States at taxpayer expenseat a cost of approximately $7.000 per refugee. This includes AFDC. Medicaid. employment assistance services. Refugee Cash Assistance. Refugee Medical Assistance. and other programs. At a time when taxes are rising. millions are unemployed and benefits to programs for veterans and other deserving Americans are being cut. this policy reflects a truly bizarre set of priorities.
