President. I understand the strong feelings that surround this issue. I know personally of our history as a Nation of immigrants. I would simply say that we will always be a Nation of immigrants and that we will always be. I hope. a place of safe harbor from the despots and the tyrannical leaders of the world. But we must recognize that in order to continue to be this kind of America. a beacon of hope for the future. we must enforce our laws so that legal immigration for the people who patiently wait will not be closed off as a reaction to the inability to control our borders.
